One of my favourite painting techniques is to take a line drawing and paint over it in "negative space". Shadows and highlights take centre stage along with an emphasis on the space that the body occupies within the constraints of the canvas.
It's fun to play around with elements of a painting, which can conjure up some interesting results.
I find simple, minimalistic monochrome and carefully considered lines are the most impactful for these types of paintings.
