Bio
Born in 1971, Sunderland, UK / resides and works in South East England. Juliet James is a contemporary artist, best known for her oil paintings of playful nude / semi-nude figures. Her subjects are painted with fluid, continuous lines which are applied to the canvas with a minimal drafting of form. Her works boldly portray a contrast between apparent child-like simplicity and a powerful evocation of emotion via subtle suggestion.
Juliet James trained as a fashion and printed textile designer, holding a BA Honours Degree from Central St Martin’s College of Art & Design, London. After graduating she worked across several design disciplines, ultimately focusing on a studio-based painting practice.
